Sunset is a light sculpture that subverts the iconic image of the sun sinking into the horizon by freezing its sublime disappearance and rendering it visible at 360 degrees. Sunset proposes a new relation with the urban environment, while reflecting on the passage of time and our contemporary image production.
The work is conceived by Ludmila Rodrigues and Mike Rijnierseis, having been previously shown in Delft, The Hague and Paris. Sunset in Amsterdam is presented by NDSM as part of (Un)monumenting, a program that puts into question the monumental character of NDSM as a urban context and historical place.
