The series of acoustic-tactile laser cuts Paper Reliefs investigates the physical properties of paper – its resistance when cut, folded or curved – to explore haptic and rhythmic interaction. The shapes and patterns are informed by the way the human hand can perform gestures in a fluid fashion, gliding over and stroking the paper.

By intentionally touching the reliefs, one notices how the multiplicity of geometric forms provide tactile, as well as acoustic experience. The works aims to engage the audience in a direct dialogue with the material.

The first series of the Paper Reliefs were presented at Cultural Center Corrosia, Almere, during the show Paperworks, curated by Fleurie Kloostra (Feb 17 – May 26, 2018). In September 2020 two new reliefs were shown and sold during ‘Geen Bloem Zonder Wortel’ Art Fair at Quartair, The Hague.
